Dust and Dust Mites

On average we spend 90% of our time indoors. Inside air pollution can be much higher than we imagine. We can smell the air, but we can't see the pollution levels around us, as only about 3% is visible to the naked eye.

One of the most prolific in-home air pollutants is the common house mite. In the UK today, the house mite is one of the primary causes of allergies, asthma and other breathing irritants.

In its three month life span, the house mite produces over 300 times its body weight in droppings and reproduces over 100 fold - much of which, with regular vacuum cleaning, is re-circulated back into the air as fine dust.

  • 'The number of people diagnosed as having asthma has more than doubled in the last 30 years. Similar trends are seen with other allergic disorders such as hay fever and eczema. This has led to speculation that increased exposure to allergens - particularly those found indoors - might be a factor behind the trends.'
  • 'Research shows that the majority of children and young adults with asthma are allergic to one of the common indoor allergens. Other studies show that the higher the level of dust mite allergens present in the dust, the greater the chances of developing an allergy to it.'
  • 'Of the various environmental factors implicated in asthma trends, recent years have seen an increasing focus on the role of indoor allergens.'
  • 'Research has shown that up to 60% of asthmatics are allergic to cat and/or dog allergens. Inhalation of airborne particles is a major route of exposure for pet allergens (levels can rise fivefold when a pet enters the room). Carpets, upholstered furnishings, bedding etc. can also harbour reservoirs of pet allergens.'

Wet dust can't fly!

The HYLA filters fine dust out of the air using only water - like nature - to naturally filter the air and wash it before releasing only pure, fresh clean air back into the room again.

Independent tests have shown that the HYLA air and room cleaner can remove more than 99.95% of dust particles larger than 3µm, and 100% of particles larger than 5µm. Click here for more details of the independent tests.

Further independent tests have shown that the HYLA air and room cleaner can reduce fungal spore concentrations in a room by more than 60%, and concentrations of bacterial spores by 40%. Click here for more details of the independent tests.
