Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is a hazardous gas found in most modern homes. It is released by adhesives and varnishes used in the construction of modern furniture, and by foams used for proofing and insulation. The release of formaldehyde gas can continue for years or decades.

The concentration of formaldehyde in the home may be below the level that would immediately cause irritation of the eyes or mucous membrane, but long term exposure to these low levels can lead to long-term sensitisation, or a propensity to allergies. People exposed to high concentrations of formaldehyde have complained about impaired memory, inability to concentrate and insomnia.

Independent tests have shown that the HYLA air and room cleaner can reduce formaldehyde air concentration in a room by up to 70%. Click here for more details of the independent tests.
